Larry is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Following ordination in 1982 as a teaching elder in the PC (USA), he served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Plumville, Pennsylvania, from 1982-1986. In 1986 he was commissioned as a Lt (jg) in the United States Navy, and retired in 2013 after 27 years of active service as a chaplain.
A 1975 graduate of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, he received his Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1978. In 2005, he was awarded a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. In 2006, he received a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in Carlise, Pennsylvania.
He and his wife, Amy, met at Fuller Seminary and were married in 1979. Amy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. They have two grown daughters.
